This month Duncan Little was interrupted from his painting to make the winning draws watched by our Chairman, Mike McGarva. Thank you, Duncan, but many more thanks are due for your voluntary single-handed repainting, starting with the changing rooms and now spreading to the entrance and beyond. Please make your appreciation known to Duncan.

To non-members of the Royals 100 Club:

Thanks to two new members another 5 balls are in play but that still leaves 41 not in play. The Royals 100 Club still needs more members to fulfill its potential. Every ball you take contributes to the target of raising £1,500 this year and at the same time every month it gives you the chance of winning up to £100 - or more if you have more than one ball. Why not join now? Please email me at royalstreasurer@gmail.com to let me know you wish to join.

To join immediately set up a monthly standing order of £5 per ball to the Royals 100 Club account number 32581238 sort code 60-40-08. The next available numbered ball between 1 to 100 will be assigned unless you have any special requests.

This month saw the passing away of two retired members who both made long and significant contributions to the life of Royals from the 1960s onwards, Ken Worden and Gwyn Evans.

Ken, with John Bigland, David Evans, David Parker and Liz Evans was in the first Royals crew to race at the FISA masters regatta in 1981 at Heidelberg winning bronze in the coxed fours. In 2007 it was reported that Ken was competing in the North of England Head for the 61st consecutive year! Ken's funeral is arranged for 11:00am in the Quire of Chester Cathedral on Tuesday 20th August.

Gwyn was Captain of Boats at the Kings School, returned to Chester in 1965 and was a very active veteran rower and coach until 2006. For many years his company printed the head program and the British Rowing Almanac. Gwyn's funeral service is at St John the Baptist Church, Chester on Thursday 8th August 2019 at 2.00pm.

If you have any Royals news to share contributions are always welcome.
