Royal Chester Rowing Club took two trailers loaded with boats to the Northwich Head of the River Weaver Race on Sunday and return weighed down with winners medals.

Racing over the 2250m course the club first eight were winners of the Walter Benyon Trophy for the fastest crew on the day, 48 seconds ahead of the second placed Northwich eight. This is the third year in a row that Royals have dominated this race.

The event is staged in three divisions, which allows for individuals to enter in various boat classes. This resulted in senior crew members also taking wins in senior coxed four with Tom Rushton, Alex Constantinou, Harry Ballard, Jonathan Jamshed and Cox Sarah Armstrong, Senior Pair Joe Fletcher Hunt with Harry McGarva and Senior single scull Harry McGarva.

Royals have considerable strength in depth with Juniors and Masters also picking up medals. The in form Women’s Junior 17 squad were clear winners in Novice eights and there were also medals for the Women’s Novice Coxed Four, Women’s Junior 13 coxed quad, and single scullers M. Linfield (J16) and M Flood (WJ13).

The Women’s Master Masters crew of Jane Sweeney, Irene Adam, Nicki Miller and Helen Tweed with cox Jo Hinnigan also picked up medals, continuing their winning run from 2016.
